Pastor Carl B. Taylor

Elder Carl B. Taylor was born on December 25, 1964, in Jackson, Mississippi, to the parents of Hazel and Maggie Taylor. As a child, he was a member of Belmount Missionary Baptist Church under the Leadership of the late Dr. M. K. Nelson.

He grew up in Raymond, Mississippi, and graduated from Raymond High School in 1982. He then attended Hinds Community College where he completed the Automotive Parts and Sales Program. On July 19, 1983, he joined the United States Army and has traveled to many states and various countries.

Elder Taylor was united in Holy Matrimony to Tonia Latrise Martin in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on April 12, 1990. Elder and Lady Taylor are blessed with four children: Carlos Montrez, Jonathan Carl, Juoniah Atrise, and Jordan Alexander. The Taylor’s reside in Ogden, Kansas.

During his travels, Elder Taylor completed an Associates of Arts degree with Central Texas College and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Business from Upper Iowa University. He also held a wide-range of leadership positions while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

In a church service in Saudi Arabia, he gave his life to Christ. He was filled with the Holy Ghost in a gospel service in Babenhausen, Germany. In 1993, Elder Taylor became a member of Genesis Church of God in Christ in Babenhausen, Germany. He attended the Ministerial Effectiveness Leadership Training (MELT) classes and various seminars provided to strengthen the body of Christ while in Germany. Then, on January 2, 1997, Elder Taylor and his family were stationed in Fort Riley, Kansas. He and his family became members of Mount Zion C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Superintendent Caleb J. Weathersby. He was ordained an Elder by Bishop William H. McDonald in the 1999 June Convocation. Elder Taylor worked beside his pastor until the Lord called Superintendent Weathersby home. Bishop William H. McDonald appointed Elder Taylor as pastor on February 2, 2003.

On July 31, 2003, Elder Taylor retired as a First Sergeant from the United States Army upon rendering 20 years of dedicated service. Afterwards, in May of 2004, he graduated from Washburn University with a Master’s degree in Social Work. He believes in reaching souls through the prison ministry as well as meeting the needs of those in need through Angle Tree. Elder Taylor seeks God to order his steps as he works diligently to ensure that the Mount Zion family continues to grow in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
